About us

NBSC is a private Club and is not connected to a local authority; we set our own rules and comply with all current child protection legislation.  Our swimming teachers are all members of the STA (Swimming  Teachers Association) with IOS (The Institute of Swimming) teacher qualifications.  The club and it's members are fully covered by the STA insurance scheme.

We aim to have a maximum of 9 in a group. For beginners and early stage swimmers each group has between 1-3 pool helpers in the water helping alongside the teacher.

We encourage parents to watch their children during lessons.  However for Health and Safety and time constraints please do not approach the teacher during a lesson.  If parents have specific concerns, they should be raised with the session leader for that day. For the first few sessions it is quite normal for young children to cry.  The teachers are used to this and will handle it without parental help.  Concerned parents should not take children out of the water.  Children who leave the pool of their own accord should be encouraged to rejoin the other children in the pool; this helps with the children's confidence and is supportive of the teachers.

NBSC has a long and successful history, the club was founded in 1965 teaching thousands of children to swim.  We have an active social committee organising events through the year.
